‘Army-backed’ senator Kakar named caretaker Pakistan PM

Anwaarul Haq Kakar, a senator perceived to be close to the army, will be Pakistan’s interim PM until the general elections are over. The senator from the south-western Balochistan province was chosen following two-day meetings between PM Shehbaz Sharif and Raja Riaz, the putative leader of opposition in the lower house of parliament, the National Assembly.
