Two dead, thousands homeless in Chile after heavy rains
Monday, 21 August 2023 Two people are dead from flooding in the central-southern region of Chile on Monday, while thousands others have been evacuated or left homeless from dangerous rains pounding isolated communities.
In Vina del Mar, Chile, a massive landslide forced the evacuation of locals after a water collector collapsed due to heavy rains. No injuries or casualties have been reported. The town's mayor, Macarena Ripamonti, says "there is no vital risk" and calls for an investigation into the incident.
