Military identifies Marine Corps pilot killed in jet crash near San Diego base

Major Andrew Mettler, a Marine Corps pilot, was killed when his F/A-18D Hornet crashed during a training flight near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego. Mettler's body was recovered at the crash site, and an investigation is underway. He was known as "Simple Jack" and was a skilled pilot and leader in his squadron.
