Ukrainian government seeks to use tax paid by service personnel to fund arms production

IndiaTimes Thursday, 14 September 2023
The Ukrainian government is considering a draft law that would allow funds raised from income tax paid by service personnel to be used for wartime arms purchases and production. Currently, this tax goes to local budgets, but diverting it to the central budget could help Ukraine boost its military capabilities. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that the Security and Defence Forces need more resources, and the draft law would allocate billions of hryvnias to the state budget in the coming years. Local budgets would still have access to accumulated funds, with subsidies provided to communities in need.
