California workers will get five sick days instead of three under law
Thursday, 5 October 2023 California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a new law that will increase the minimum number of paid sick leave days for workers from three to five annually. The law, which will take effect in January, also allows workers to carry over more sick leave into the following year. Supporters argue that the legislation will prevent workers from choosing between taking a day off and getting paid, curb the spread of diseases, and improve productivity.
