More than 500 migrants rescued off Spain's Canary Islands

IndiaTimes Saturday, 4 November 2023
Over 500 migrants were rescued off the coast of Spain's Canary Islands, bringing the total number of arrivals this year close to the record set in 2006. Two dead bodies were also found among the rescued individuals. The increase in arrivals is attributed to milder weather and calmer seas, making the dangerous crossing from Africa more feasible. Spain's Interior Ministry reported a 111% increase in undocumented migrant arrivals in the Canary Islands compared to the same period last year.
