Viktor Orban's dream of an illiberal pan-European alliance is fading

Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban's hopes of leading a pan-European movement with illiberal and nationalist ideals are fading. Some of his political allies in Europe have experienced poor election results, and there are divisions over the war in Ukraine. Poland's Law and Justice party, a longtime partner of Orban's Fidesz party, recently lost a general election, distancing themselves from Orban. Furthermore, Orban's stance on Russia has caused controversy.
