'Woman with a Watch': Pablo Picasso painting sells for $139 million
Thursday, 9 November 2023 Pablo Picasso's "Femme à la montre" has sold for over $139 million at a Sotheby's auction in New York, making it the highest-priced artwork sold at auction worldwide this year. The painting, depicting Picasso's mistress Marie-Thérèse Walter, was part of a collection estimated to be worth $400 million. It marked the second-highest auction price for a Picasso, trailing behind "Les femmes d'Alger (Version 'O')." The artwork was ultimately purchased by an anonymous buyer.
