South Africa calls Brics summit to address Gaza situation; joint statement likely
Monday, 20 November 2023 Leaders of Brics countries, along with newly added member-states, are set to join a virtual meeting on the West Asia situation amid the Israel-Hamas conflict. The meeting, chaired by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, will be attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. India is likely to be represented by Foreign Minister S Jaishankar. A joint statement on Gaza is expected to be issued after the meeting, and it remains to be seen if India will endorse a ceasefire.
