Fate of jailed protesters dominates EU-Cuba talks

EU's special representative for human rights, Eamon Gilmore, met with the families of jailed protesters in Cuba. The prisoners' situation was the main topic of discussion during his visit, which is part of an EU-Cuba agreement. The anti-government protests in Cuba occurred more than two years ago, with thousands of Cubans demanding freedom and expressing their frustration with economic hardships. The Cuban government has reportedly jailed around 500 protesters, while human rights organizations estimate the number to be 700. Gilmore also raised concerns about the death of a protester in prison.
