How the EU is reshaping its asylum system

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 20 December 2023
The EU reached a preliminary agreement on asylum-seekers and irregular migrants. Border filtering will involve identity, health, and security checks, as well as biometric readings. Streamlined vetting will process asylum-seekers with lower chances faster, using detention centers. The solidarity mechanism will reform the Dublin III mechanism and require member states to take in asylum-seekers or provide contributions. The package establishes an emergency response for migration surges. The concept of a 'safe third country' will be allowed when vetting asylum-seekers.
