A Turkish parliamentary committee resumes debate on Sweden's Nato bid

IndiaTimes Tuesday, 26 December 2023
The Turkish parliament's foreign affairs committee is deliberating on Sweden's bid to join Nato. President Erdogan linked Sweden's admission to US approval of Turkey's request to purchase F-16 fighter jets. Erdogan called for simultaneous actions by the US Congress and Turkish parliament on these matters. He also urged Canada and other Nato allies to lift arms embargoes on Turkey. Ratification process for Sweden's membership has stalled in the Turkish parliament due to concerns over security and issues that need clarification. Sweden and Finland joined Nato following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
