Israel tanks back in areas of north Gaza they had exited
Wednesday, 17 January 2024 Israeli tanks re-entered parts of the northern Gaza Strip, sparking intense fighting and explosions, despite Israel's previous announcement of scaling back operations in the area. The resumption of violence comes after a period of relative calm following Israel's reduction of forces in the north. Throughout the night, gunfire could be heard across the border, and in the morning, rockets were intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome defence system. Israel claimed to have killed dozens of Hamas fighters in clashes in Beit Lahiya.
