Thousands of worshipers of African-based religions gathered at Ramirez beach in Montevideo to offer their annual tribute to the Yoruba goddess Yemanja. The number of people practicing African-inspired faiths in Uruguay has more than doubled in 12 years, reaching 2.1% of the population in 2020.
