(SOUNDBITE) (Hindi) A FAN, RAVI PRAKASH, SAYING: "Our Indian team is out of the final (of the World Cup).

We are very disappointed as the confidence we had seen in the Indian team was not there (today)." STORY: Angry fans in India's northern Amritsar city burned posters of the national cricket team after the team failed to book a place in the final of the cricket World Cup after losing to underdogs New Zealand by 18 runs on Wednesday (July 10).

A poster of Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni was also burned as fans chanted slogans against the team.

New Zealand survived Ravindra Jadeja's late onslaught to stun India in the low-scoring thriller after resuming on the reserve day.

Twice champions India were reeling at 24-4 in their chase for a modest victory target of 240 in what had appeared to be a lop-sided semi-final.

Jadeja (77) partnered Mahendra Singh Dhoni in a century-plus stand but India were bowled out for 221 in the final over.

New Zealand will play hosts England or defending champions Australia in Sunday's final at Lord's.
