Pair of sections on Long Island become first in New York State to cancel spring sports season

Sections VIII and XI have decided to cancel their spring sports seasons.

Section III, locally, has not yet made a determination.

Today - two sections within the state announced their decision to cancel their spring seasons.

Both sections found on long island - section eight in nassau county - and section 11 in suffolk county made the announcements within the last couple of hours that they would not be holding their spring sports in any capacity this year.

They become the first in the state to do so.

While the new york state public high school athletic association said it hopes to decide the status of spring state championships on or before april 27th - it left regular season and section tournament decisions up to individual sections.

Here locally - section three has not made any determination at this time and executive director john rathbun told us today that they are still following new york state on pause guidelines.
