European WHO Director: Almost Half Of All COVID-19 Linked To Nursing Homes

The World Health Organization says up to 50% of the COVID-19 deaths in Europe are associated with long-term care facilities.

The WHO's regional European director Hans Kluge said Thursday that long-term care has often been "abhorrently neglected." Nursing home residents are often of advanced age and have underlying mental and physical illnesses.

They are at an elevated risk of being infected and suffering from complications related to COVID-19.
