CHINA - Chinese human rights lawyer Wang Quanzhang poses with wife Li Wenzu and his son as he is home in Beijing, China, on April 28, 2020 after spending 4 years and six months in prison and total isolation from his family.

The 44-year-old was released on April 5 after completing his sentence for state subversion, and while officially free, he remains under tight surveillance by police and is prohibited from reuniting with his wife and son in Beijing.

Wang was among the last group of lawyers to be released from jail in the 709 crackdown – a purge of human rights defenders and activists by the authorities five years ago, which takes its name from the July 9 date on which the crackdown began.
