This is the terrifying moment a tornado ripped through a field in Philippines just days before Typhoon Ambo struck the country.

The swirling vortex was seen picking up dust from a field in Batangas on May 12.

The powerful tropical storm, with the international name Typhoon Vongfong, slammed into Eastern Samar province on Thursday (May 14) at 12:15pm local time.

Onlookers in the town of Tanuan, where the mini tornado was recorded, said the extreme weather came with soaring summer temperatures.

The filmer said: ''I saw the tornado from outside my house and watched as it moved across the field.

The weather has been crazy recently.'' Typhoon Ambo is the first typhoon to hit the Philippines this year in the midst of Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.

Thousands of residents have been evacuated due to the tropical storm.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Saturday morning (May 16) that Ambo had reached Tuba, Benguet, moving northwest at 15 kilometers per hour (km/h).

Its maximum winds have dropped to to 75 km/h, while the gusts decreased to 125 km/h.
