Minneapolis activist: protests show long-held grief

A Minneapolis peace activist says people are expressing their anger over many killings of black men by police, and will need a long time to heal from the years in injustice.

As protests continue across the U.S. over the police killing of George Floyd, Minneapolis peace activist K.G.

Wilson told Reuters the nationwide protests weren't over one single death.

"Since then there has been a lot of anger, rage, there's been a lot of officers that haven't been fired from their jobs, that haven't been charged with these murders." Wilson has been an activist for decades.

He says protesters should be careful not to hurt their neighbors - and that the unrest has forced stores to shut.

That's meant people can't access essentials.

"...CVS, Walgreens, where our seniors go get their medications for us boarded up.

They can't go get their medication.

Cub foods, where they go get their food from, the grocery stores.

So what that does is that pushes us, people like us to come out and have to feed the people in the community." As a community leader Wilson says he thinks that even after officers are convicted and taken to jail, more time will be needed.

"I think even if these people are, these officers are convicted and charges and taken to jail people are still gonna have to heal."
