Kayaker collects shocking amount of plastic pollution from beach sea in southern Thailand

A tour guide was shocked after finding plastic pollution floating in the sea when he went out kayaking at a popular destination in Krabi, southern Thailand.

Tawich Suwanpiam had paddled out his kayak from Kho Ngai island into the sea during his free time on Monday (22/06) afternoon.

After paddling several metres away from the shore, the tourism worker was greeted by an disheartening amount of garbage in the water.

His leisure time was spent collecting the trash and rowing with it back to the beach for it to be properly disposed of.

Tawich said this was not the first time that he encountered pollution in their beautiful waters.

He said: "I reckon most of the garbage floats over here from Malaysia which is just across the border.

I have been doing this for over six years now since I worked here." Tawich believes that the tide pushes the plastic pollution over to their area during monsoons.

He said: "I decided to collect it back to the shore as I worried that they might harm the sea creature so I collected them back every time I found them." The ocean lover encouraged locals and tourists to help cleaning the beaches so that they are preserved for future generations.
