Building level planning... a parke county officer is recovering after a medical scare... richard solomon sat down with him today..

He shares how deputy chris mccann has a new outlook on life.

Parke county deputy chris mccann says the community support is the push he needs to fully recover.

He has a long road ahead of him.

But he now has a new outlook on life.

After being hooked up to a machine saving his life "nats" chris mccann is back at home feeling better.

"i view it as im glad to be alive that's the start of it.

I feel sore but i feel good" mccann is a parke county deputy.

He and his family were headed home from the movies one night last week.

That's when the unthinkable happened... "my wife told me i started to feel dizzy.

I passed out over the steering wheel just started rolling through the stop sign my wife had to stop the car" mccann was rushed to a local hospital.

He says his heart had stopped beating for some unknown reason.

And for 4 days...he was unconcious...hooked up to a machine.

"they had put cooling blankets around me to keep my temperature down and then slowly brought me back up" but the community wasn't going to let their hero or his family go through this alone.

He says churches provided food to his family.

And local businesses held numerous fundraisers.

This is video from a candlelight vigil that was held for mccann.

"i can't believe the support that we've received throughout the community and neighboring communities and everybodies just dropped their hat just to help out anyway they can" mccanns says doctors have him on a heart monitor currently.

He says it will be some time before he can return back to work.

Mccann says he's learned you should never take anything in life for granted.

"live each day like your last.

I didn't expect this at 32 and i hope it doesn't happen to anybody else" mccann says he's resting right now.

He'll have a check up within the next week.
