Hungry mother and baby elephant loot roadside fruit stall in Malaysia

A hungry mother elephant and her child looted a roadside fruit stall.

The jumbos, a mother and her child, blocked passing cars and attacked the vendor's stand in Johor, Malaysia on July 31.

Police said the fruit stall was owned by a 52-year-old woman who fled the scene when the creatures rampaged on the road side.

The wild animals then ate the fruits for sale while terrified motorists slowly passed by them on the road.

Kota Tinggi District Police Chief Supt Hussin Zamora said: "The stall owner fled after the two elephants arrived.

But the stall was damaged and she suffered a loss of RM 1,000." No one was hurt in the incident but it caused traffic jams. Hussin added: "The area is a route extension from wild elephants.

It is not the first time they were seen here." A herd had previously raged not far from the area last week where a security guard died when her was attacked while driving.
