Welcome back... for coach's corner tonight... our very own bill shanks is talking with the head football coach at brentwood.

Here's part one of their conversation.

Bird brown is back for his 21st year as the head coach of the brentwood, or he goes and coach the last year, 10 and three very good season ran into that gatewood team.

They're not in our area, so we can talk about them a little bit, but they're, they're always a hassle for you, but still a good season for you last year.

Wasn't it a great season bill?

We, we, uh, we knew we had a chance to be pretty good last year if we stayed healthy, which is the case for us year in and year out.

But, uh, a 10 win season, uh, three losses, two of them to gatewood who turned out to be the class two, eight champions in a gis.

And then our other loss was to john millage, who is everyone knows one to three level, uh, in gis.

So, you know, while you, you, you don't like to lose, uh, we lost to two pretty good football teams last year.

Uh, you know, it was, it was disappointing there in the semifinals, but, uh, you know, a lot of good came out of last year.

And, um, we're looking forward to maybe taking the next step this go around.

Absolutely no doubt about it.

Let's talk about your defense.

Uh, they allowed 18.4 points per game last year.

I know you've got one of your, your big guys on the line, right?

To lead your way, right?

Luke plays, uh, one of the defensive we call them ends, although they line up head up on the offensive tackles, uh, in our three, four scheme, uh, luke looks to have a really, really good season, uh, on our defensive front, along with our other tackle, uh, fellow senior bryce rouge, we feel really good about those two guys.

Is that your strength up front?

Um, those two, along with our outside linebackers, uh, what we used to call defensive ends, uh, in, back in the day, uh, thomas denton, a junior who played there as, as a sophomore a year ago, and then a ford shepherd, uh, who's a rising senior.

He played one of the inside linebacker positions last year, but we've moved him out there to the outside spot.

Uh, we feel like we can be pretty salty there as well.

Uh, working at, uh, you know, filling in our, our nose guards graduated a year ago, both of them.

So we're working a young sophomore right now.

He's not very big, but he's quick as lightning and he's strong in his, in his legs and his lower body, a young man named oscar gonzalez.

We've also got a rising junior jackson collins who, who got a lot of play in time, uh, at the nose spot last year.

So, uh, hopefully by mid season, we can be just as strong in the middle as we are on the outside.

That's the defense, the offense of brentwood last year was really good.

Can they do it again?

We'll talk to coach brown about that in our next report.

You can hear more from bill's interview with coach westbrook tonight on 41nbc news at 11.
