Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir region received fresh spell of snowfall and rain which have triggered cold wave conditions in the region. The snowfall led to closure of several roads connecting remote villages in the area. In view of heavy snowfall in the higher reaches of the valley, a 'low danger' avalanche warning was issued for Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban, Doda, Anantnag, Kulgam, Baramulla, and Ganderbal.
An encounter between security forces and terrorists broke out in the Parigam area in Pulwama district on November 19. Police and security forces are currently carrying out the operation. Further details are awaited in this regard.
A local terrorist surrendered during an encounter with the security forces in the Lal Pora village of Pampore in Pulwama district on November 06. A total of two terrorists were also killed in the encounter by the security forces. The encounter began on November 05 during a search operation in Meej area of Pampore. 2 AK-47 and 2 pistols recovered from the site. 2 civilians were also injured.
Two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on November 10. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Kutpora area after receiving information about the presence of militants. CRPF and Indian Army troops conducted the joint search operation. The search operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired upon the security forces, who retaliated. Their identification and group affiliation is being ascertained. Shopian police exhumed and handed over the bodies of three boys to their families who were killed in an encounter in Shopian district on July 18. Police handed over the bodies on October 04, after the DNA samples matched. Police Official said, "The bodies have been exhumed and have been brought back to district Rajouri. Bodies have been handed over to the family members." One of the relative of the boys said, "We don't know what happened to them, either police or government would know. We only know that they were missing from past few days. Today we received their dead bodies, we are thankful to the government and police." Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane on this case had said, "Amshipora case investigations will be conducted with utmost fairness and will be taken to their logical conclusion. Indian Army is committed to the professional conduct of operations."
The Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has asked to misled youngsters, who have joined path of terrorism in Kashmir to become a part of the mainstream. He said that the government will provide employment to them. "The people of Jammu and Kashmir want to grow and progress. We are making efforts to generate employment and educational opportunities for our youngsters. They should become a part of the mainstream," said Governor Manoj Sinha, while taking to media. Manoj Sinha also inaugurated several development projects in Shirmal area of Shopian District under 'Back to Village 3' program. The program has been started to mark Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary. The governor also laid foundation stone of 100-bedded girls' hostel costing Rs 306.34 lakhs.
