On Wednesday, the flag commission selected one flag design for Mississippians to consider.

W-t-v-a's alexis jones is live in tupelo with a look at that banner and what some folks think about it the state flag commission started with nearly three thousand designs from the public.
Today, the commission finally selected one of them for you to consider.

Is among those who believe the commission made the right choice.
The group went with what was the magnolia flag but is now known as the "in god we trust" flag.
Sot: "i love that color because really it symbolizes the other colors of the southern flag."
However, the chairman of the state flag commission has a different take on what the banner signifies.
"we'll send a message to all of america that we're open for business.
We'll send a message that we live in the future and not in the past."
The previous banner carried the confederate emblem, which some saw as honoring the past, others saw as a sign of a racist past.
As for this new emblem.
"i like the flag.
Yes, because it has flowers, the stars and it shows unity."
The final decision will come from voters in the november third general election.
If they approve it, the flag will start flying statewide.
