Hundreds of residents evacuated during floods in Malaysia

Hundreds of residents have been evacuated after floods swamped homes in Malaysia on Tuesday (September 15).

Heavy rain in recent days has caused rivers to burst their banks close to several cities in the state of Sarawak.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Center noted that more than 120 residents in Song City also had been evacuated.

They are now being temporarily evacuated in the Naga Embuau Public School building while other displaced locals have been housed in temporary shelters.

Apart from these two cities, floods also inundated the streets of Kanowit, Sibu and Miri Cities.

In several locations, the water level has become treacherous and more than two metres deep in some parts.
