31 midday news.

This morning you're taking a live look over madison county, from our waay 31 stormtracker sky cam.

Madison county is one of the many counties in north alabama labeled "high risk" on the alabama department of public health's risk map.

With halloween weekend just days away, health officials are urging people to stay safe to prevent a spike in cases.

Waay 31's ashley carter joins us live now with the message they're sending ahead of the holiday weekend.

Doctor karen landers with the alabama department of public health says the way we usually celebrate halloween should look different this year.

She says if people don't take the proper precautions, hospital systems could become overloaded again.

Landers did give recommendation s on some safe ways to celebrate the holiday.

She recommends drive thru events instead of trick or treating door to door and laying candy out on a table to avoid direct contact.

She says group activities are fine as long as there are a small number of people.

Her biggest concern is people will chose to have large indoor parties.

Dr. karen landers adph "there is an increased opportunity for transmission.

I mean certainly people want to celebrate and perhaps if there could be a small group that your generally around and everyone is taking similar measures to reduce covid 19."

Landers also stressed the importance of wearing a mask.

Doctor landers says the reason we didn't see a spike in cases after the labor day holiday was because the mask order was in effect by then.

She hopes people still bring that mask along with them when out this weekend.
