During his address in the foundation stone laying ceremony of Ahmedabad and Surat metro rail projects, PM Modi said that the best example to see the work difference between previous governments and current government is the expansion of metro rail network across country. He further said that there was a time when there was no modern thinking regarding metro network and no metro policy. "Best example to see difference between approaches of previous governments' work and work of current government is the expansion of metro rail network across country. Before 2014, only 225 kms of metro line became operational in 10-12 yrs. In last 6 yrs, over 450 kms of metro network became operational. Work is underway on over 1000 kms of metro network in 27 cities across the nation, as of now. There was a time when there was no modern thinking in nation, regarding metro network. There was no metro policy. As a result, there were different kinds of metro in different cities."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stone of two metro-rail projects on January 18. These two metro rail projects include Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-II and Surat Metro Rail Project. Bhoomi Poojan was held via video conferencing. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri were also present on this occasion. The completion cost of both Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-II and Surat Metro Rail Project is Rs 5,384 crores and Rs 12,020 crores respectively.

PM Modi said, "This connectivity will be beneficial for tourists coming to see the Statue of Unity but it will also help in changing the lives of the tribal community of Kevadiya. It will bring new opportunities for job and self-employment. This rail line will also connect religious places situated on the banks of Yamuna River. Kevadiya is no longer a small block instead it is emerging as one of the tourist destination."
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on December 05 took a fresh jibe at Amit Shah and said that Congress MLAs were ashamed of seeing him as Union Home Minister. He also blamed BJP for allegedly trying to topple the state government. "They (BJP) tried to make the government fall in Rajasthan.
