Speaking to ANI, Director of Area Cyclone Warning Centre in Chennai, Dr N Puviarasan said, "Severe cyclonic storm Nivar expected to move Northwest wards and weaken into cyclonic storm in districts of South-interior Karnataka.
Fishermen are also advised not to go to sea in South-coastal Andhra Pradesh and North-coastal Tamil Nadu.

BJP president JP Nadda attended party's Pongal festival in Chennai on January 14. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat visited and offered prayers Sri Kadumbadi Chinnamman Temple in Ponniammanmedu on Jan 14. He also participated in Pongal celebrations. According to Tamil solar calendar, Pongal is observed at the start of the month Tai.

They made 'rangoli' and their ritual delicacies. Due to the pandemic, people avoided public gatherings this year. Pongal is a four-day-long harvest festival observed by people of Tamil Nadu.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath offered prayers at the Gorakhnath temple on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. He offered prayers in the wee hours of January 14. Several devotees also gathered at the temple to celebrate the Makar Sankranti. Makar Sankranti is celebrated in North India on January 14. Locals in Visakhapatnam celebrated 'Bhogi' festival on January 12. They gathered to light bonfires to burn their old belongings. Locals danced around the bonfire to celebrate the joyous occasion. 'Bhogi' is celebrated by boycotting the old things for focusing on new beginnings. 'Bhogi' marks the beginning of the four-day Pongal festival. Pongal is a multi-day harvest festival of South India.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa in Bengaluru on January 15. Both the leaders also held a review meeting regarding the preparations of Aero India show. Chief of Defence Staff, Bipin Rawat along with other officials attended the meeting.

Kalaburagi Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP), Dr Umesh G Jadhav inaugurated flight service. He inaugurated the flight service between Karnataka's Kalaburagi and Andhra Pradesh's Tirupati on January 11. People frequently travel between Kalaburagi and Tirupati. The inaugural flight had around 80% occupancy. Speaking to ANI, Kalaburagi MP Jadhav said, "People travel frequently between Kalaburagi and Tirupati. Today's flight had 80% occupancy." "We are also planning to operate flights to Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru," he added.
The 2nd day of 'Jallikattu' or bull fight festival began in TN's Madurai on Jan 15. The medical check-ups of bull were conducted before the fight commenced.
