Many Fort Wayne residents chose to avoid large family gatherings this Thanksgiving.

They say it's a sacrifice they're willing to make to stop the spread of the virus and keep their loved ones safe and healthy.

I'm chris mullooly.tonight -- some fort wayne residents are avoiding large family gatherings this thanksgiving.

Opting to stay closer to fox 55's nico pennisi speaks with families about how they're spending the holiday.

Stand up: thanksgiving looks a little different for families this year.

Fort wayne residents have had to adapt their holiday plans because of the pandemic.harris: "i've had a couple of scares this year with covid-19 myself.

Friends have come down with it, some of them really bad.

This year it's just better to focus on my own household."patrick harris' usually involves him running around to different relatives' homes from noon until night.

"visiting, checking in, overeating...now it's just a matter staying safe."harris is sad he's missing out on the large family gatherings.

He says it's a sacrifice he's willing to make to enjoy future holidays with them.

"i would like all of my loved ones to be safe and healthy.

That can't happen if we are all clustering together in large groups."chad hartley
