AAP MLA Somnath Bharti was arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Rae Bareli on Monday. He was arrested for allegedly making derogatory remarks against CM Yogi Adityanath. This came shortly after a man threw ink at the AAP leader as he was leaving a guest house. The events were slammed by AAP, which alleged that Bharti was first attacked and then framed. Bharti had reached Rae Bareli on Sunday night to inspect its state-run primary schools. He was stopped by the police when he was leaving the guest house on Monday morning. The MLA from Delhi's Malviya Nagar has been sent to 14-day judicial custody by a court in Sultanpur.

Black ink was thrown at Aam Aadmi Party MLA Somnath Bharti on January 11 in Raebareli. Bharti was headed to inspect government schools in the district when the attack took place. An FIR has also been registered against Somnath Bharti in Amethi for his alleged derogatory statement about the condition of hospitals in Uttar Pradesh. The alleged right-wing activist was upset with Bharti's remark and also lashed abuses at him. Bharti also got involved in a heated argument with police officials when an alleged right-wing activist threw ink on him. After the incident, Bharti was detained in the guest house itself. The youth who threw ink on Bharti managed to escape.
The AAP on Wednesday won four of the five civic wards in Delhi in a bypoll, with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asserting that people were desperate to bring the party to power in the three municipal corporations in the national capital. The AAP, however, suffered a shock defeat in the minority-dominated Chauhan Bangar ward, where Chaudhary Zubair Ahmad of the Congress defeated the party's candidate Mohammad Ishraq Khan by a whopping margin of 10,642 votes. "The results are an indication of what kind of outcome is expected next year in the civic body polls. We are waiting for it and will make the city neat and clean," Delhi CM Kejriwal said in an address at the AAP office on DDU Marg, where he reached to celebrate the victory with party workers. Delhi-based businessman Rohit Datta spoke on how it felt to be the first Covid-19 patient in the national capital. Recalling his time in hospital, Dutta said he is excited to take the Covid-19 vaccine. “Initially, I was blank and didn't know about the coronavirus. I was in hospital for 14 days following which I was allowed to go home. I have registered all senior citizens in my family for the ongoing vaccination. Since I do not have any comorbidity, I will also be vaccinated later on. I am waiting for my turn to get vaccinated and I am very excited,” he said. The second phase of vaccination drive for age-appropriate population groups began on March 1 with the union health ministry calling out eligible people to get an appointment at respective hospitals in the country.
