Addressing a public gathering in poll-bound Tamil Nadu, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapaddi K Palaniswami is being "fully controlled" by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, adding that the state needs an "independent" Chief Minister.
"The coming election is about the future of Tamil Nadu.
The Chief Minister because of corruption is fully controlled by the Prime Minister.
Tamil Nadu needs an independent CM," said Rahul Gandhi in Kuzhithurai.

Coronavirus cases continue to surge in the country. Amid COVID scare, Tamil Nadu government has intensified surveillance. On the orders of the District Collector, 29 monitoring teams have been set up to monitor Rameswaram. The team instructed locals about COVID SOPs and police kept a tab over the vehicular movement. Thermal screening of bus passengers were also done in the region. Tamil Nadu has 16,79,740 active cases as of now.
Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday, hours after chairing an emergency meeting on the coronavirus situation in the state. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage across the country, Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi asked Centre to lower the COVID vaccine age eligibility to 25 and above. "India has already exported nearly 6.5 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses to other countries. Considering the highest infection rate in the world in our own country, shouldn't vaccine export be held back and priority given to our citizens?
