Opposition demands resignation of Tripura Forest Minister over land scam
Opposition Left Front MLAs on Thursday demanded the resignation of Tripura Forest Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia for his alleged involved in land scams. CPI (M) MLAs raised their demand in the state assembly while also pressing for an investigation of the minister's alleged involvement in the land scam.
The opposition party claimed that Jamatia had illegally grabbed large tracts of government land under the forest department.
Refuting the allegations, Jamatia asserted that he doesn't own a single piece of land.
Mevar Kumar Jamatia is the general secretary of the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) and represents the Asharambari constituency of the Khowai district.

Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of the Calcutta High Court announced his resignation today, accompanied by his declaration of joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Speaking at a press conference held in Kolkata at 2:25 pm, Gangopadhyay emphasised that he sees the BJP as the sole national party capable of challenging the dominance of the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal.
