Dilip Ghosh accuses TMC workers for attack on his convoy
After alleged attack on his convoy in Cooch Behar's Sitalkuchi, West BengalBJP chief Dilip Ghosh in a press conference claimed that vehicles returning from Mamata Banerjee's rally threatened BJP workers and created tension in the area by attacking them with bombs, sticks and stones.
Explaining the incident, Dilip Ghosh said, "I was in Sitalkuchi, Cooch Behar for poll rally.
While it was going on people returning in vehicles from Mamata Banerjee's rally were threatening our workers, showing them sticks, creating tension.
Police beat up our workers amid this." "Later when our people started leaving, Police asked us to stop for a while.
When I started leaving after all workers, Police left me and went away.
I was then surrounded by hundreds of people who attacked us with sticks and bricks.
I was injured, many vehicles were vandalised," Ghosh added.
Election Commission imposed a 24-hour campaign ban on Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh. The ban has been imposed over his 'there will be Sitalkuchi in several places' remarks. Commission 'sternly' warned Ghosh and advised him to desist from using such statements. Four people died in a firing incident by CISF in Sitalkuchi during the fourth phase of polls. Officials had said the jawans opened fire after they came under attack from locals. The campaign ban on Ghosh will be in effect from 7 pm April 15 to 7 pm April 16. Reacting to EC's order, Ghosh said he will not stage dharna unlike CM Mamata Banerjee. Earlier, Ghosh was also sent notice by EC for his alleged remarks over the Sitalkuchi incident. Poll campaign has seen EC clamping down on several leaders for objectionable utterances. EC earlier barred Mamata from campaigning for 24 hours for remarks against central forces.

With fifth phase of polling is underway in West Bengal, a report of TMC camp office vandalism has surfaced from Deganga Assembly constituency. TMC's camp office was vandalised at booth number 81 in Kumarpur on April 17. The party workers alleged that central forces are behind the vandalism. In the ongoing West Bengal Assembly polls, BJP candidate from Bidhan Nagar, Sabya Sabyasachi Dutta alleged that 'TCM goons' are stopping voters in Nayapatti Bidhan Nagar during polls. Union Home Minister Amit Shah blamed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for violence that happened during fourth phase of polls in Cooch Behar's Sitalkuchi. The violent incident had claimed lives of four people. "Didi is abusing BJP unnecessarily. You're mistaken that BJP is contesting against you. It is the mothers, sisters of North Bengal, Rajbongshi community, the Gorkha community, the tea workers, the farmers who are contesting against you," said Amit Shah.
