Amid sudden surge in COVID-19 cases, Tamil Nadu government has shut all beaches in Chennai, Chengalpet and Kanchipuram districts for public on weekends and all government holidays starting from April 11.
The decision is taken to avoid mass gathering at beaches amid surge in COVID-19 cases.

Tamil Nadu reported 6,618 fresh COVID cases in last 24 hours, taking the number of active infections to 41,955.
Singer Sonu Nigam inaugurated the blood donation camp organised by Ameet Satam's Adarsh Foundation at Bharatmata Hall, Vidyanidhi campus in Juhu. He donated blood and urged his fans to donate blood amid the second wave of COVID-19. The singer became the first blood donor of the two-day camp set up in Juhu and he also motivated the youth to donate blood before taking the vaccination. Sonu Nigam had tested COVID positive earlier.
Tamil Nadu government had imposed fresh COVID-19 restricts in order to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. Government had also extended night curfew and Sunday lockdowns till further orders. Government-run TASMAC liquor shops have been permitted to operate between 8 am and noon till May 20. Locals thronged the shops on the morning of May 06 to get their dose of alcohol.
In wake of COVID-19 spread, testing has been ramped up by governments. A long queue was seen at Moradabad Railway Station as people waited for health officials to arrive and begin the testing. People complained that they have been standing in queue since morning but administration is delaying the testing process. Later, lab technician informed that due to unavailability of transport, they could not reach on time.
Once again India crossed the 4-lakh mark in daily spike of COVID-19 cases after reporting 4,12,262 new infections in last 24 hours. COVID caseload of the country stood at 2,10,77,410, with 35,66,398 active cases. Death toll continues to mount as India reported highest single day deaths. 3,980 fatalities were reported in last 24 hours taking the total death toll to 23,01,68. Total of 1,72,80,844 people have won the battle against the deadly virus. Vaccination drive is underway across country. So far 16,25,13,339 doses have been administered.
Petrol and diesel prices in the national capital after a slight increase stood at Rs 90.99 and Rs 81.42 per litre, respectively on May 06. Prices rose by 25 paisa and 30 paisa respectively in Delhi. In Mumbai, the prices of petrol and diesel jumped by 22 paisa and 30 paisa to Rs 97.34 and Rs 88.49. The price of petrol and diesel in Chennai was Rs 92.90 and Rs 86.35 per litre respectively and Rs 90.92 and Rs 83.98 per litre in Kolkata.
Union Health Ministry on May 05 informed that Bengaluru reported around 1.49 lakh cases in last one week is an area of concern. "There are some areas of concern.
