Thousands of people flocked to celebrate New Year, Ugadi in Kairuppala village. Villagers were seen hurling cow dung cakes at each other as part of celebrations. The crowd displayed no regard to wearing face masks or social distancing. Andhra Pradesh has witnessed a steady rise in fresh Covid cases over the last few weeks. It recorded over 4,220 cases on Wednesday, the highest daily count in six months.

Amid COVID-19 scare, scores of people participated in 'Pidakala War' in AP's Kurnool. COVID precautionary measures were ignored during the war in Kairuppala village. With no mask and no social distancing, people organised 'Pidakala War'. The cow dung cakes were hurled by two sides at each other on the next day of Ugadi in the war.
With upsurge in country's COVID-19 cases, many organisations have come forward to offer their best during these tough times. Telangana's Calvary Temple has been converted into a COVID care centre. The 300-bed capacity centre was inaugurated by TRS leader and MLC K Kavitha. It is a highly equipped centre with oxygen support and has round the clock presence of doctors and nurses. The temple association is looking forward to further increase the bed capacity to 1,000 in coming days.
A Hyderabad-based start-up claims to have developed a portable and affordable oxygen generator. India is currently facing an acute shortage of medical oxygen amid a huge rise in Covid-19 cases. The Phi Factory co-founder Praveen Gorakavi said that the machine can support two patients for six hours, or one for twelve hours. As the country is reeling under the horrific second wave of pandemic and acute oxygen shortage, a start-up in Hyderabad came up with a invention to address the crisis. 'The Phi Factory' has created a portable oxygenerator, which works on Hydrogen Peroxide, under the name 'Project Vayuputra'. Vayuputra has been developed with an objective to support COVID-19 patients who are under home isolation. Price of this oxygenerator would be around Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 2,600 that includes the oxygenerator along with 10x2 liter bottles of Hydrogen Peroxide.
