A leopard is caught on camera attacking villagers on farmland in a village in northern India.

The incident happened on the morning of 6 May in Bhadesar village in Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh.

The big cat was first spotted by villagers earlier in the morning.

They informed other locals and forestry officials, who then gathered to find it.

During the attempt to track it, villagers Anoop and Kuldeep were attacked by the leopard, which jumped out at them suddenly from a bush.

They sustained relatively minor injuries in the incident and the leopard ran away.

The forest officials have since put up cages and nets to try and catch the leopard.

Incidents of conflict between wild animals and humans are becoming more common in the region as growing human populations increasingly encroach on former forests.
