The chair of the Southend West Conservative Association has paid an emotional tribute to local MP Sir David Amess who has died after being stabbed during a constituency surgery.

The funeral has taken place of an aid worker who was killed in Gaza last month. 47-year-old James Kirby died when his convoy was struck by an Israeli air strike. Around four hundred people gathered in Bristol today for James's funeral. His friend paid a touching tribute to him, saying that "he can’t be replaced by anyone, no one can ever take his part. Mr Kirby, 47, was one of seven World Central Kitchen (WCK) workers killed in an Israeli drone attack in Gaza in April. Dangerous cyclists could face tougher sentences, similar to those imposed on drivers, under new proposals. Motorists can face a life sentence if they’re convicted of causing death by dangerous or reckless driving. A current loophole allows a cyclist to be jailed for a maximum of two years for “wanton and furious driving.” Parliament will debate on Wednesday whether to make amendments to the Criminal Justice Bill to clamp down on rogue cyclists.
