Brazil, whose official name is the Federative Republic of Brazil (in Portuguese, República Federativa do Brasil), is a sovereign country in South America that comprises the eastern half of the continent and some groups of small islands in the Atlantic Ocean.

It is the largest country of Latin America.

With an area estimated at more than 8.5 million km², it is the fifth largest country in the world in total area (equivalent to 47% of the South American territory).

Bounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the east, Brazil has a coastline of 7,491 km.To the north it borders the French overseas department of French Guiana, Suriname, Guyana and Venezuela, to the northwest with Colombia, to the west with Peru and Bolivia, to the southwest with Paraguay and Argentina, and to the south with Uruguay: In this way, it has a border with all the countries of South America, except Ecuador and Chile.

Radical in much of its territory.

The Amazon rainforest covers 3.6 million km² of the territory.

Thanks to its vegetation and climate, it is one of the countries with the most animal species in the world.
