Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's niece, who is a well-known rights activist, has called on foreign governments to cut all ties with Tehran over its violent crackdown on anti-hijab protests.
A video of a statement by Farideh Moradkhani was being widely shared online after what activist news agency HRANA said was her arrest on November 23.
On Thursday, a call for restraint echoed from Russia, Germany, and Britain to nations in the Middle East, as tensions escalated over an Iranian threat targeting Israel. Israel, in response, asserted its readiness to address all its security concerns. Lufthansa, one of the limited Western airlines serving Tehran, prolonged the suspension of its flights to the Iranian capital, citing safety concerns. Additionally, Russia cautioned against travel to the Middle East amidst the escalating situation. The backdrop of this tension is the vow of retaliation from Iran following the April 1 airstrike on its embassy compound in Damascus, which resulted in the death of a senior Iranian general and six other military officers.
