Why do NFL fans feel as though a rival lost is their win??

I'm writing this post because I've always been puzzled by the fact that rival fans seem to feel good about the Eagles losing in the Superbowl - even if they're not Kansas City Chiefs fans.
As someone who's emotionally invested in my team, a loss always hits hard, and I can't imagine feeling good about it happening to another team.
