Biden okays controversial Willow Oil Project in a setback to climate fight | Explainer|Oneindia News
The US President..Joe Biden…has greenlighted a major ..and a very controversial oil drilling project in the climate-sensitive region of Alaska.
The approval has come just one day after the Biden administration imposed limits on oil and gas drilling in 16 million acres of Alaska and the Arctic Ocean.
This contested project had been initially approved by the Trump administration in 2020… then it was struck down by the courts in 2021…and now a ‘scaled-down’ version has been given a go-ahead by the Biden administration.
Even after being scaled down, this will still be one of the largest oil and gas developments on US federal land….and the approval has put Joe Biden in direct confrontation with climate activists now.
The environmental advocates are expected to challenge this project again in the court.

Biden Is Giving $6 Billion , to Micron Technology , for Semiconductor Production.
On April 25, President Biden will travel to Syracuse, NY, to announce over $6 billion in federal grants that his administration is awarding to Micron Technology, NPR reports. .
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who was heavily involved in enacting the CHIPS and Science Act, issued a statement about the investment. .

Micron will invest $100 billion of the funds to construct a manufacturing facility in Syracuse.
Schumer referred to the plan as "quite a
great return" on the government's investment.
A factory will also be built in
Boise, Idaho, NPR reports. .
That facility is expected to be ready for production by 2026, while two New York factories will likely be ready by 2028 and 2029.
The White House estimates that
the projects could create 20,000 jobs
in construction and manufacturing.
in addition to "tens of thousands of
indirect jobs in the regions," NPR reports. .
The CHIPS and Science Act has also provided funding for Intel, TSMC and Samsung

and towns in the United States have started offering
relocation packages to attract potential new residents.
Perks can include financial incentives, free gym
memberships, access to co-working facilities
and even a dinner with the mayor. .
The most lucrative of these relocation incentives
have reportedly offered as much as five figures. .
MakeMyMove.com is an online marketplace
connecting remote workers with locations across
the U.S. that are offering relocation packages.
In 2023, over 50,000 people applied
for programs through the platform. .
In 2018, Tulsa Remote became the first company to offer
a $10,000 relocation package to entice remote
workers and entrepreneurs to relocate.
Ascend West Virginia offers a $12,000 cash incentive,
along with a number of outdoorsy perks, to attract
people to a number of Ascend communities.
CNN reports that Indiana has been
one of the most ambitious when it
comes to offering relocation benefits. .
According to MakeMyMove.com, there are
dozens of Indiana cities offering incentive
packages, including Noblesville and Evansville.
