Hundreds attend vigil in Nottingham as victims named
Hundreds of mourners have attended a vigil in Nottingham after two 19-year-old university students, Barnaby Webber and Grace Kumar, and a man in his 50s were killed by an attacker on Tuesday morning.
Holding back tears, the Right Reverend Paul Williams, Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham said: āI am desperately sad for our universities and for many of the young people who bring so much to Nottingham and today we grieve with them.ā Report by Buseld.

The Court of Appeal has refused to change the sentence of Valdo Calocane, who killed three people in Nottingham last summer. Dr Sanjoy Kumar and Dr Sinead OāMalley, the parents of Grace OāMalley-Kumar, attended the hearing. Speaking outside the Royal Courts of Justice following the decision, Dr Kumar said: "The Attorney Generalās case has not been successful. This is disappointing, but not unexpected." Giving their judgment, the Lady Chief Justice Baroness Carr said: āThere was no error in the approach adopted by the judge. āThe sentences imposed were not arguably unduly lenient.ā She concluded: āIt is impossible to read of the circumstances of this offending without the greatest possible sympathy for the victims of these terrible attacks, and their family and friends." The parents of Grace OāMalley-Kumar have blamed āfailingsā in the system for a series of stabbing attacks, including a sword attack in Hainault on Tuesday and a school stabbing in Sheffield on Wednesday. Graceās father, Dr Sanjoy Kumar, said āpositive change is so long overdueā after a 14-year-old boy was killed in Hainault and three teenage boys were admitted to hospital in Sheffield following the attacks.

A Moroccan asylum seeker has been sentenced to life in jail for murder, with a minimum term of 45 years, at Teesside Crown Court. In October last year, 45-year-old Ahmed Alid stabbed Iranian Christian convert Javed Nouri at the house he was sharing with other asylum seekers before looking for more victims in Hartlepool town centre. He then stabbed and killed 70-year-old Terence Carney who was out for his regular early morning walk.
