Mayor calls for sanctions against police responsible for Lawrence ‘failings’

Sadiq Khan says any police officer proved to have committed misconduct during the investigation into the murder of Stephen Lawrence should face severe sanctions.

The mayor of London says, "any officer who was responsible for these failings should have action taken against them." Stephen was 18 when he was murdered by a group of five or six racist attackers in Eltham, south-east London, in April 1993.

His mother has expressed fury that no police officers have faced action over the bungled handling of information about a sixth suspect in her son's murder.

Obesity jabs found to cut risk of heart attack and strokes

Jabs designed to combat obesity might lower the likelihood of heart attacks, strokes, or heart failure among obese individuals, irrespective of the extent of weight loss experienced during the medication regimen. This indicates the potential for the treatment to yield benefits beyond mere reduction of excess body fat. Professor John Deanfield, who led the study, said the findings “have important clinical implications”. Report by Covellm. Court of Appeal refuses to change sentence of Calocane

The Court of Appeal has refused to change the sentence of Valdo Calocane, who killed three people in Nottingham last summer. Giving their judgment, the Lady Chief Justice Baroness Carr said: “There was no error in the approach adopted by the judge. “The sentences imposed were not arguably unduly lenient.” She concluded: “It is impossible to read of the circumstances of this offending without the greatest possible sympathy for the victims of these terrible attacks, and their family and friends."
