Bibby Stockholm: A first look on board the migrant barge

TV cameras were today given a first glimpse inside the Bibby Stockholm barge which arrived at Portland Port in Dorset on Tuesday.

The barge will house around 500 asylum seekers, all single men, in bunk beds of between two and six people per en-suite room.

A canteen, gym, classroom, exercise yard, television room, and space for worship are among the facilities on board.

The government says housing migrants on barges is “significantly” cheaper than the £6-million-a-day taxpayer bill of using hotels Report by Jonesia.

Asylum seeker sentenced to life for revenge terror killing

A Moroccan asylum seeker has been sentenced to life in jail for murder, with a minimum term of 45 years, at Teesside Crown Court. In October last year, 45-year-old Ahmed Alid stabbed Iranian Christian convert Javed Nouri at the house he was sharing with other asylum seekers before looking for more victims in Hartlepool town centre. He then stabbed and killed 70-year-old Terence Carney who was out for his regular early morning walk. Alid told police he had committed his crimes out of “revenge” for Israel killing children in the Palestinian conflict. Report by Jonesia.
