Construction on the airport started in 2020 to replace the old airport due to concerns that the vibrations were damaging Angkor Wat's foundations.

The new airport is designed to handle an estimated 7 million passengers a year, with plans to boost that capacity up to 12 million passengers by 2040.

Thai PM Faces Mass Protests | Leaked Call With Cambodia’s Hun Sen Fuels Political Storm | Bangkok

Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is under fire as thousands take to the streets of Bangkok demanding her resignation. The protests erupted after a leaked call with Cambodia’s Senate President Hun Sen, in which Paetongtarn dismissed a Thai army commander’s criticism of Cambodia amid a deadly border clash. The scandal has shattered her fragile coalition, with the Bhumjaithai Party pulling support and anti-corruption agencies launching probes. The opposition, including monarchist-aligned Yellow Shirts, is rallying in full force, evoking memories of past coups against the Shinawatra family. Cambodia's Hun Sen, now Senate President, accused Thailand of invading Cambodian territory and warned of escalating tensions. Paetongtarn denies wrongdoing, but with possible suspension by the Constitutional Court looming, her grip on power is rapidly weakening. Protesters claim she compromised national dignity; the court's decision next week could change Thailand's political course. #ThailandProtests #PaetongtarnResign #ThaiPMScandal #HunSenPhoneCall #BangkokProtests #ThailandPolitics #CambodiaBorderClash #YellowShirtsReturn #PheuThaiCollapse #ConstitutionalCourt #ThaiMilitaryClash #ThailandCambodiaTensions #CambodiaHunSen #VictoryMonumentRally #ThaiOpposition #ThaiPMControversy #BorderDispute #PheuThaiTrouble #ThailandCrisis #SoutheastAsiaNews Also Read Bangkok Woman Gives Birth On Street As Chaos Triggered By Massive Earthquake Forces Evacuation | WATCH :: https://www.oneindia.com/international/bangkok-woman-gives-birth-on-street-as-chaos-triggered-by-massive-earthquake-forces-evacuation-wat-4108759.html?ref=DMDesc Bangkok Declared 'Disaster Area' As Strong Earthquake In Neighbouring Myanmar Shakes Thai Capital :: https://www.oneindia.com/international/thai-pm-paetongtarn-shinawatra-declares-state-of-emergency-in-bangkok-as-strong-earthquake-shakes-4107631.html?ref=DMDesc Two Powerful Earthquakes Hit Myanmar; Strong Tremors Felt in Bangkok :: https://www.oneindia.com/international/two-powerful-earthquakes-hit-myanmar-strong-tremors-felt-in-bangkok-4107515.html?ref=DMDesc ~HT.410~ED.103~GR.125~
