Two US Navy sailors reported missing off coast of Somalia during operation | Oneindia News
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) reported on Friday (January 12) that two US Navy sailors have been missing off the coast of Somalia since Thursday.
The names of the sailors have not been released for security reasons.
These navy personnel were deployed in the operational area of the US Navy's 5th Fleet.
Currently, search and rescue operations are underway to locate the missing sailors, and additional information will be withheld until the personnel recovery operation is complete.
"The sailors were forward-deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet (C5F) area of operations supporting a wide variety of missions," the U.S. Central Command said.
A Comoros-flagged livestock ship was attacked off Yemenâs Red Sea coast near Mocha by unidentified gunmen in a small boat. The vessel was en route from Somalia to Saudi Arabia when it came under fire. Though no group has claimed responsibility, the incident adds to growing fears over shipping safety amid ongoing Houthi threats. Security firm Ambrey warns vessels to avoid eastern waters near the Hanish Islands. With the U.S. drawing back and Israel escalating strikes, tensions in the Red Sea continue to rise.

Venezuela has slammed the latest U.S. travel ban, with Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello calling America a âdangerous placeâ where Venezuelans are persecuted âfor no reason.â The backlash follows President Trumpâs proclamation banning entry from 12 nations, including Afghanistan, Iran, Somalia, and Yemen. Somali Ambassador Dahir Abdi says heâs open to dialogue, but many see the ban as discriminatory. The White House defends it as âcommon senseâ national security. Trump cited a recent attack in Colorado by Egyptian nationalsâthough Egypt is not on the list.

Former President Donald Trump has signed a new proclamation banning nationals from 12 countries, including Afghanistan, Iran, Somalia, and Sudan, from entering the U.S., citing national security threats and poor vetting standards. The White House says the ban will take effect June 9 and partially restricts travel from seven additional nations. Trump linked the move to a recent attack in Colorado and emphasized the need to prevent unvetted migration. The policy echoes his earlier "Muslim Ban," drawing controversy but winning court backing. Certain exemptions, like green card holders, remain.

The U.S. has accused Iran of supplying advanced weapons to Yemenâs Houthi rebels, prompting a sharp denial from Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei, who called it a âbaseless media campaign.â According to CENTCOM, Yemen's National Resistance Forces (YNRF) recently seized the largest-ever cache of Iranian conventional armsâallegedly bound for the Houthisâincluding anti-ship and anti-aircraft missiles, radar systems, warheads, and communications gear, much of it bearing Iranian military markings and Farsi-language manuals. In a dramatic twist, it was Qatarâs own air defense systemânot U.S. interceptorsâthat initially shielded the AlâUdeid Air Base from Iranâs multiâwarhead GhadrâH missiles. Seamlessly integrated and rapidly activated, Dohaâs Patriot batteries detected and neutralized several incoming warheads, halting their approach before CENTCOMâs systems could fully engage. The speed and precision of Qatarâs defense network underscored the countryâs strategic importance and deep coordination with U.S. forces. Experts suggest this success could reshape Gulf military dynamics and highlights Qatarâs growing role as frontline guardian amid Iranâs escalating retaliatory campaign.

Trump In Epstein Trouble: A major rift has appeared within the MAGA movement as supporters turn on President Donald Trump. The controversy ignited after Trump publicly defended Attorney General Pam Bondi, a move seen by many conservatives as a dismissal of concerns surrounding the recently unsealed Epstein files. This defense has triggered an unprecedented backlash from his own base.
The fallout has been swift and visual. Influential conservative figures have condemned Trump's stance, and viral videos have spread across social media showing die-hard supporters burning their MAGA hats and other merchandise in protest. This public display of disillusionment signals a deep fracture within what was once Trump's most loyal demographic. As Trump scrambles to control the narrative with a 400-word post on Truth Social urging unity, even figures like Elon Musk have taken public jabs at him over the issue.
Sensing a critical moment of weakness, the Democratic party is moving quickly to capitalize on the Republican infighting. Former President Barack Obama is set to return to the political frontline, headlining a major fundraiser in New Jersey this Friday alongside DNC Chair Ken Martin. This event, Obama's first since the 2024 election, is designed to rally the Democratic base and frame the GOP's internal conflict as a major liability ahead of the crucial 2026 midterm elections.
This report from Oneindia News breaks down the timeline of the MAGA backlash, Trump's attempts at damage control, and the strategic moves being made by Barack Obama and the Democrats. Stay tuned for the latest updates on this developing story in US politics.

A major tragedy has struck Gujarat after the Gambhira bridge, a crucial link connecting Anand and Vadodara, collapsed on Wednesday. At least three people have lost their lives in the incident, which saw multiple vehicles, including a truck and a tanker, fall into the Mahisagar River below. The shocking collapse has brought traffic to a complete standstill, severing a vital transportation route in the state.
Gujarat Minister Rushikesh Patel officially confirmed the death toll, stating, âThree persons killed in bridge collapse in Vadodara district.â Emergency services and disaster response teams were rushed to the spot to conduct search and rescue operations. This incident raises serious questions about infrastructure safety and maintenance protocols.
The collapse has led to significant disruption for commuters and commercial transport between the key districts of Anand and Vadodara. Authorities are working to clear the debris and assess the full extent of the damage while rerouting traffic to prevent further chaos.
According to Minister Patel, the bridge was originally constructed in 1985. He added that its maintenance was carried out periodically as and when required, a statement that will likely come under intense scrutiny as investigations begin to determine the exact cause of this fatal structural failure. Oneindia News is tracking all the latest developments on this story.

A training aircraft, reported to be a Cessna 337 Skymaster, has crashed in Tatarstan, Russia, narrowly avoiding a direct impact with a private residential house on Monday. This developing story has raised urgent questions as an investigation into the cause of the crash gets underway. So far, authorities have confirmed that there are no casualties reported from the incident.
According to dramatic eyewitness accounts, the plane was seen circling the area for approximately one hour before it ultimately crashed. This unusual behaviour is a key focus for investigators who are now working to determine the cause of the malfunction. While official confirmation of the aircraft model is still pending, multiple reports point to it being a Cessna 337 Skymaster, a light twin-engine plane used for both civilian and military purposes.
The Cessna 337 is known for its distinctive push-pull engine configuration. Worryingly, this model has a documented history of accidents linked to issues such as engine failure, stalls, and fuel mismanagement. Investigators will be meticulously reviewing the aircraft's maintenance records, the pilot's actions in the moments before the incident, and the prevailing weather conditions to piece together what went wrong. Stay tuned to Oneindia News for the latest updates on this breaking story.
