PM: Rochdale by-election 'one of the most divisive'
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has reacted to George Galloway's by-election victory, saying it was "one of the most divisive in recent times".
Asked whether Galloway's victory would cause tensions, Sunak said it was "very concerning to see reports of intimidation".
"I'm pleased that the Conservative Party was the only party to run a really positive campaign focused on local issues with a great local candidate, Paul Ellison," Mr Sunak added.

A 14-year-old boy killed in a sword attack as he walked to school has been named as Daniel Anjorin. Tributes have been paid to the teenager who has been described as a "much-loved" pupil and a keen footballer. The horrific attack which took place in Hainault, north-east London on Tuesday morning left four more people injured. A 17-year-old boy has been arrested and remains in custody on suspicion of attempted murder after three people were injured at a school in Sheffield. Assistant Chief Constable, Dan Thorpe, urged the public to “refrain from posting images, footage or speculation on social media as it will be harmful to the investigation”.

The parents of Grace O’Malley-Kumar have blamed “failings” in the system for a series of stabbing attacks, including a sword attack in Hainault on Tuesday and a school stabbing in Sheffield on Wednesday. Grace’s father, Dr Sanjoy Kumar, said “positive change is so long overdue” after a 14-year-old boy was killed in Hainault and three teenage boys were admitted to hospital in Sheffield following the attacks.
