Former subpostmaster Alan Bates, who led the campaign to expose the Horizon IT scandal, has told the Post Office inquiry that the organisation has spent 23 years trying to silence him. Giving evidence in central London on Tuesday, Mr Bates criticised former postal affairs minister Ed Davey for saying the government had an “arms-length relationship” with the Post Office. Humza Yousaf has announced his resignation as Scotland's first minister ahead of forthcoming confidence votes. Mr Yousaf had been battling for his political survival after terminating the power-sharing deal between the SNP and Scottish Greens on Thursday. He entered Holyrood in 2011, first as a regional MSP and then as the representative for Glasgow Pollok five years later.
